Harrisburg, PA September 24 – The trek from Harrisburg to Battlefield Harley Davidson in Gettysburg was once again led by the God Bless America Motorcycle Color Guard. State Representatives Brian Barbin and Dan Moul were this years appointed ride marshals. Representative Readshaw rode in a Slingshot supplied by Hernley’s Polaris-Victory-Indian Motorcycles and driven by Allan Monico this year . We were also joined by Harrisburg’s Zembo Mounted Patrol and the AMA Motor Maids led by former State Rep Teresa Forcier. 383 riders participated and raised a total of $13,329 bringing the grand total to more than $174,000.

Representative Readshaw stated, “I am honored that so many riders have made this event an important part of their lives in the past and hopefully in years to come, they can show their children they helped to keep the monuments in a condition that honors the soldiers who fought in the Battle of Gettysburg, ensuring that future generations will know the pride taken in these soldiers and their memories.”

The Monuments Project was started to fund desperately needed cleaning and repairs to the more than 140 monuments and markers on the battlefield that honor the heroism and sacrifice of the thousands of Pennsylvanians who fought in the epic clash, which turned the Civil War tide in the Union’s favor.

At the conclusion of the ride all participants received a chicken dinner compliments of Battlefield Harley Davidson. The gun raffle was won by Karen Moldovan of the Liberty Riders Chapter of ABATE of PA. The winning ticket number was 2741.

Next year’s ride, the 17th annual will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017. It will also mark the 20th anniversary of the PA Gettysburg Monument Project.

I want to personally thank each and every participant in this year’s ride which once again was an outstanding success. Special thanks to the many Chapters in ABATE of PA who donated to the ride through Representative Readshaw’s Raiders special Commission’s program. We also had two businesses and one couple donate this year.
