By Jesse Reed
January 24 & 25 was our 35th annual Leadership and Legislative Seminar and if you missed it you missed one of the most emotional seminars we will face for many more years with the tearful farewell to Charles Umbenhauer as our long time lobbyist. Leading our way to many challenges in the State Capital, helping to lead us through several laws we desperately needed to get passed to assure we keep our “FREDOM OF CHOICE “ just that our freedom of choice. As always we set up the hospitality room with plenty of food for all in attendance from the 4 chili entries for the annual Chili Challenge cook off to Philly Chapters hot dogs and sauerkraut, Denise’s homemade meatballs & fresh roasted turkey with gravy, and my homemade cream of crab soup, corn bread , and of course Saturday morning sausage gravy, biscuits, and home fries not to mention all the other foods and beverage supplied by each chapter in District 9, plus plenty of potato chips, cheese curls , and popcorn donated by Herr’s Foods in Nottingham, PA and soon to be one of Lancaster County Chapter 65 Gold card supporter.
The winner of our 2020 annual chili challenge cook off this year was Elk County Mike Haberberger $475.44 4 bean White Tail Chili and the winner of the beloved horse’s ass trophy was Clarion County’s Rod Gearhart thank you both for your participation and as always all money donated for the chili challenge and donated for the food and beverage went to BikePAC. This year our Lancaster Chapter member and a familiar face at the L & L, Austin Tomlinson was not at the L & L but we hope he will be returning next year AUSTIN WAS GREATLY MISSED BY MANY. Elivia Bonecutter one of our Jr 7 year members Bonecutter’s granddaughter stepped in for Austin and carried the donation begging can around the room during the Banquet dinner and ceremony collecting $321 for Bike Pac we all owe a big thank you to junior members like Austin and Elivia they are our future .Thanks to everyone who donated we were able to give a total of $796.44 to Bike PAC, and a very special thanks to everyone who helped unload and then reload my trailer for without you my life would be much harder.
