BikePAC News Update
One of the goals of the annual Leadership and Legislative Seminar is to raise money for BikePAC for the coming year. This year will be extremely important to ABATE because it is a General Election year which will see the entire House of Representatives up for election along with 25 Senate seats. In addition, we will be electing a new Governor and Lt. Governor.
We were quite successful this year and actually broke every record for raising funds in the 25 year history of the L & L. I think it deserves a review of exactly how we did it.
First we offered coins commemorating the 25th anniversary of the L & L for sale. Each coin cost $20 and extended some discounts to those that purchased these unique coins. The coin sale generated over $5000 in profits.
Bill McElyea organized a Chili cookoff which was a new event this year. It was quite successful and raised $208 in votes. The winner was Linda McElyea who received a large trophy for her efforts and the worst chili award was given to Dave Evans and Di of the Chinklacamoose Chapter. In addition, the hospitality room collected tips which were later donated to BikePAC that totaled $365.
Blue Mt Chapter held its annual Wagon of Cheer fundraiser which raised $1721 for the PAC and was won by Paul Orr. He donated the wagon (without the cheer) back to be given away also.
The auction organized by Barb Smith raised over $4,700 and gave attendees the opportunity to win some very unique items. Too many items to mention individually but I do want to recognize Joann Handwork of Washington County for her quilt that she had made and displayed many donated t-shirts from around the state. Del Val also donated a shotgun valued at $600 which brought in a nice piece of change for the PAC.
Individual chapters stepped up and donated over $24,000 from their members fundraisers from the previous year.
All in all it was the most successful BikePAC fundraising effort raising over $38,000 over the entire weekend.
My thanks to each and every person who attended this year’s L & L and donated money to the PAC.
