PA Governor Proclaims Month of May Motorcycle Safety & Awareness Month

Harrisburg, PA - The Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education (A.B.A.T.E. of PA) is pleased to announce that the Month of May is again designated Motorcycle Safety & Awareness Month.

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell recently signed a Proclamation declaring May as Motorcycle Safety & Awareness Month in the Commonwealth. The formal presentation will be at the ABATE of PA Rally in Harrisburg on Monday, May 19, at 1:00 PM.

For over two decades, Pennsylvania has recognized the importance of motorcycle awareness and safe riding habits.  As temperatures warm, and the presence of motorcycles increases, motorists and motorcyclists must unite in the safe sharing of roads throughout Pennsylvania.

"It's a reminder to motorists to be aware of motorcyclists," according to Charles Umbenhauer of ABATE. "It's also a reminder to motorcyclists to keep their equipment in shape, ride safely, and take advantage of the training offered by Pennsylvania's Motorcycle Safety Program."

Motorcycle riding is a popular form of recreation and transportation for over 800,000 licensed motorcyclists across the Commonwealth.

During the month of May, Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education of Pennsylvania (A.B.A.T.E.) will continue its advocacy of motorcycle safety and awareness by placing 11,000 custom-printed lawn signs in high-visibility areas. The signs will read "Look Twice - Save A Life" Motorcycles Are Everywhere.

A.B.A.T.E. is the "Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education."  It is an organization of motorcyclists dedicated to the protection of the individual rights of motorcyclists through political change, public education, and charitable works. A.B.A.T.E. is active in the elimination of unfair legislation as it concerns motorcyclists; promoting motorcycle safety through both motorist and rider education; and improving the image of motorcyclists to the general public.

A.B.A.T.E.'s goal and purpose is to keep motorcyclists, members, and the public informed, to promote safe riding habits, and to encourage favorable legislation for motorcyclists.  This is accomplished through a monthly newsletter, e-mail alerts, safety & education programs, working with the state and federal legislators, and voter registration promotion.

Since 1983, A.B.A.T.E. has represented the interests of motorcyclists riding Pennsylvania's roads.  Through a variety of programs, A.B.A.T.E. is working to protect and preserve the rights of over 800,000 licensed motorcyclists.
